Henrietta Bowden-Jones

Dr. Henrietta Bowden-Jones (MRCPsych, BA (Hons), DOccMed, MD) is the Founder and Director of the National Problem Gambling Clinic in the UK. She is a medical doctor specializing in addictions psychiatry and an Honorary Senior Lecturer at the Division of Brain Science at Imperial College, where she teaches medical and neuroscience students about pathological gambling and impulsivity.
Based in London, the National Problem Gambling Clinic is the National Health Service’s first multidisciplinary treatment center for problem gamblers. The clinic receives 700 referrals a year and is a center for excellence in the treatment of pathological gamblers.

Dr. Bowden-Jones has been a member of the UK Government’s Responsible Gambling Strategy Board since 2009, advising it on prevention, research, treatment, and education. She is also a member of the board’s Research Panel.
She has lectured extensively nationally and internationally for many years. She regularly appears in national and international media, ranging from television to radio and newspapers, and gives interviews on issues pertaining to pathological gambling.

Dr. Bowden-Jones also runs the UK Problem Gambling Research Consortium, a group of 12 researchers from Imperial, Cambridge, Oxford, and University College London collaborating on different research projects within the National Problem Gambling Clinic. Her textbook, A Clinician’s Guide to Problem Gambling, will be published in the UK soon.

She is the Royal College of Psychiatrists’ spokesperson on problem gambling, as well as an elected member of the college’s Executive Committee Addictions Faculty. Her expertise in the field of impulse control behaviors has led her to contribute position statements and educational materials, such as the problem gambling educational leaflets for the college.
