Dr. Pauliina Raento

Dr. Pauliina Raento is research director at the Finnish Foundation for Gaming Research and professor of human geography at the University of Helsinki in Finland. She serves the journal Political Geography as an associate editor, International Gambling Studies as a regional assistant editor, and the Finnish Association for Scholarly Publishers as the chair of board. She holds a Ph.D. from the University of Nevada, Reno, where she developed an interest in qualitative gambling research and conducted a three-year post-doctoral research project about the American casino industry. Dr. Raento’s publications about gambling focus on space, culture, Nevada, and Finland. Her most recent publications about gambling are Gambling, Space, and Time (co-edited with David G. Schwartz, University of Nevada Press, 2011) and the edited Finnish-language volume Gambling in Finland (Gaudeamus Helsinki University Press, 2012). The latter will be available in English in 2014.
